Welcome to the Studio Arts Project!

The Studio Arts Project began with an intention: to make art and to be of service.

The basic concept of the Studio Arts Project is grounded in the idea that in order to be truly effective in teaching clients to use art-making for personal transformation, the facilitators, themselves would need to engage in and model their own creative process alongside their clients.

In a unique art and writing process the clients learn to combine uninhibited art-making with thoughtful writing and reflection. Our studio is a safe space, free of any comment or criticism, providing you with a healthy environment to access your inner wisdom and explore and expand your intuition. No prior art or writing experience required - just an open mind.

With a goal of greater outreach to underserved populations, Studio Arts Project has begun collaborating with a variety of social service agencies in order to bring to their constituents the benefits of these encounters with the creative process.

What is Art Therapy?

Art Therapy is a human service profession that uses the visual arts to communicate feelings
that cannot be expressed by words alone. Clinical experience has demonstrated that the
images produced in making art help externalize and resolve internalized fears, conflicts and
blocks. Credentialed art therapists are specially trained to promote change through
involvement in art making within the context of a therapeutic relationship. The practice of art
therapy is based on an in-depth understanding of basic human behavior, psychopathology and
therapeutic processes.
